START: curatorial project development

About this grant

Open year-round, independent curators from Switzerland working in visual arts, photography or architecture can apply to receive support for their research on a subject related to contemporary artistic creation in Switzerland, which is expected to form the basis of a future project (exhibition, programme or publication). More information Independent curator Fabian Flückiger , based in Bern and Brussel, received in 2024 a START grant for his project ‘Mapping Brussels’ (working title), an exploration of the city’s artistic microcosm, including a specific focus on artists from Switzerland. This research project, conceived as a metaphorical city tour through a selection of artworks, will form the basis of a future exhibition, presented with co-curator Valérie Knoll at the Kölnischer Kunstverein in 2026. ‘For independent curators, the conceptual development of an exhibition often comes at their own expense.
